Preparing for Surgery
It generally takes 20 to 30 minutes for the eyes to become fully dilated. Near vision is affected and your focusing ability will not return for roughly 2-4 hours. Your distance vision will not be affected (you can still wear your glasses/contacts), but we do not recommend that you drive home while our eyes are still dilated. Bring sunglasses. A common side effect while dilated is increased light sensitivity. We at Associate Ophthalmologists will not perform any type of laser vision correction without a dilated exam. We believe it is an essential part of achieving a good result.
The third part of the laser vision correction process is your follow-up care. It begins with your day 1 post-op and will continue throughout your first year. Listed below is the schedule of necessary appointments.
• Day 1
• Week 1
• Month 1
• Month 3
• Month 6
• Year 1
These follow-up visits are an important part of your result. Dr Rudick or Dr. Shepps will personally monitor your progress and assess your results. Should you need an enhancement, the doctor will be able to evaluate your outcome by the three-month visit. The chances of needing an enhancement are slight, but are more common in patients with severe myopia and/or astigmatism.
