...SO YOU CAN EXPAND YOURS!
Laser vision correction with LASIK is receiving a good deal of attention these days as a permanent solution for near or far-sightedness as well as for astigmatism. Imagine: No more glasses or contacts. Experience, knowledge, precise skill and judgment of the doctor ensures that LASIK is a quick procedure with minimal discomfort and downtime for the patient. Returning to work the next day - with vastly improved vision - is typical and results are excellent and predictable.

As highly trained ophthalmic surgeons, Dr. Rudick and Dr. Shepps obtain LASIK results that continue to outperform the national averages. They will be pleased to explain both the procedure and the expected results. A thorough evaluation will determine if you are an appropriate candidate. Carmen Levine, our LASIK coordinator, can provide you with further educational information, and put you in contact with patients that have had the procedure. Some patient feedback:

"I couldn't have given myself a better present. Dr. Rudick is the best. He made everything seem so easy. It's amazing that such a positive lifestyle change can be so quick, easy and nearly painless." - Claudia Smith

"Fear was a major deterrent to getting my vision corrected permanently. Fear versus freedom Trust became the overriding factor in making my decision. Dr. Shepp's expertise in eye trauma surgery made me feel more comfortable with having the procedure done. There is so much marketing about laser surgery to sift through - ultimately it comes down to the skill of the doctor performing the procedure." - Dee Salomon

LASIK CONSULTATION:
To ensure appropriate scheduling, be certain to declare your interest in a LASIK consultation when making your appointment. Call Kerri at (212) 233-2344.

A WAY TO CUT THE COST OF LASIK:
If expense is an obstacle, we will work with you to utilize your (or your spouse’s) corporate flexible spending account to reduce the net cost of the procedure. This will allow paying for vision correction with tax-exempt money and could save between $1000 and $2000 depending on your income and tax bracket. Remember that arrangements for flexible spending account usage need to be made soon for LASIK in year 2000. Plan now to have laser vision correction during the first year of the new millennium! Check with your employer for details about flexible spending account utilization.
No flex spending account? You still deserve a break. Through February 2000 we will be offering an opportunity for significant savings. Ask Kerri for details!

NOT READY TO GIVE UP YOUR GLASSES?
For those of you partial to frames, our optical shop at 150 Broadway is under new management and now offers a great selection of new frames. Prescriptions are filled by Patricia Salazar, a guild trained optician known for her personal service and quality workmanship that far exceeds the one hour factories (but still provides a quick turnaround).
Even if you aren’t in the market for new specs, ask the doctors about the new options and advances that have been made with contact lenses. New alternatives are available for astigmatism, bifocal, disposable, planned replacement and cosmetic needs.

A WORD TO THE WISE
Did you know that a significant percentage of individuals taking a steroid-type medications (even allergy and asthma products) can develop elevation of eye pressure that can lead to glaucoma, a silent and vision-threatening condition affecting the optic nerve. For patients on such medications we recommend a thorough base line exam and subsequent brief eye pressure checks.

WE'RE NOT ONLY INTERESTED IN EYES
Our work necessitates interface with a wide variety of specialists in the medical field, including dermatology, ear/nose/throat, allergy, and primary care. Don’t hesitate to ask us if you need a doctor referral. Similarly, the trust and confidence conveyed by the referral of a friend or family member is what we consider to be the ultimate compliment. We appreciate our patients who spread the word and aid in the growth of our practice!
